Christmas Eve harvest

This is the plot on Christmas eve, when we harvested our vegetables for the festive period. Our harvest consisted of: 1 tall stalk of sprouts (as my not-so-glamorous assistant Bess is showing off above), 1 celery plant, 4 leeks (2 short and fat, 2 long and thin), 1 savoy cabbage, a few heads of p.s. broccoli, 1 swede and a large bunch of rosemary and sage.

We had lots of snow in the week before Christmas. It had mostly started to melt away by Christmas eve. It’s weird how it transforms a whole allotment site into an almost blank canvas.

‘Can we go home now?’
