My first courgette, no doubt the first of many to come. There are lots of little baby ones, just waiting for you to turn your back for 5 minutes, so they can spurt into growth and attempt to turn themselves into marrows before you can pick them. Crafty devils.
I always get quite excited by the first courgette, I’m not sure why, as it’s not long before you’re sick of the sight of them and planning lots of cunning ways to sneak them into every meal, or foist them onto unsuspecting people. But I wouldn’t be without them, they give so much and yet demand so little, if only other crops could be as easy as courgettes.
