Welcome!

I’m a designer and illustrator who is passionate about gardening and in particular growing fruit and vegetables on my allotment.

The gallery of pictures on the home page show some of the items that are for sale in my Etsy shop. You can click on the link on that page, or the orange Etsy badge below, to visit the shop.

On the blog page, you can read about my allotment. There are posts about what and how I grow, how I combat pests and diseases, and how I store and preserve my harvests, along with as many photos as possible.

I also keep a little journal where I practice my drawing skills by documenting my allotment journey in ink and watercolours.

It’s definitely looking like it’s been a good year for the garlic. We haven’t pulled it all up yet, just those whose stems have gone over. There are some tiny ones too, as per usual, but on the whole they look much better than last year. ➡️ All of the red overwintered onions have been harvested and are now basking in the afternoon sunshine. I planted out 2 rows of leeks this morning and a few cosmos and nasturtiums in the emptied onion bed. That’s it now, the plot is officially full. See my story for a little plot walk along.

First head of garlic pulled up is a beauty. If I get more like this I’ll be very happy (I almost certainly won’t). Just don’t ask me what variety it is 😂. #garlic #garlicharvest #wetgarlic #ilovegarlic #allotmentgrown UPDATE: thanks to Instagram acting as my online diary - I scrolled back to last autumn and found a posting where I commented that I’d decided to replant some of the previous years garlic - so the variety of this one is Vallelado 🥳 I also planted some called Messidor but that’s a pure white one.

Spotted this lovely painted lady butterfly basking in the sunshine on my Sweet Williams yesterday. They’re a migratory species, flying into Britain from Africa and south Europe in June. They must have had a bit of a shock when they arrived this week! Amazing little creatures. #butterflies #paintedladybutterfly #natureisamazing #wildlifegarden

Finally made it to the plot today after a whole week of rain. I picked a huge bunch of sweetpeas, the brassicas are getting huge already, there’s a courgette glut on the horizon, all was looking good ... until I got to the cucumbers 😒. I’m really not sure what’s happened to these guys, except maybe they didn’t like the drop in temperatures so much. The squashes are also looking a bit sorry for themselves but not quite as bad. Here’s hoping a bit of sun perks them up, otherwise it’ll be my 2nd year without cucumbers. Probably serves me right for complaining about gluts in the past. 🥒

The mini greenhouse has been refilled. Some violas sown from seed that will hopefully see my pots through into autumn. I know, it barely feels like summer and I’m planning for autumn. I’ve also sown some biennials, wallflowers, and honesty, and some white aquilegias from a free packet of seed. I’m also hoping to harvest some seed from the white foxgloves on my allotment, once they dry out from all the rain. #seedsowing #gardening #propagationstation

Another wet afternoon, so no chance of any gardening, but at least I’ve been able to work on my journal. This is pretty much what I’ve been able to harvest so far, apart from rhubarb and a few onions. I think the rest of the red onions (over wintered ones) will be coming out at the weekend, and possibly the garlic too.
