Welcome!

I’m a designer and illustrator who is passionate about gardening and in particular growing fruit and vegetables on my allotment.

The gallery of pictures on the home page show some of the items that are for sale in my Etsy shop. You can click on the link on that page, or the orange Etsy badge below, to visit the shop.

On the blog page, you can read about my allotment. There are posts about what and how I grow, how I combat pests and diseases, and how I store and preserve my harvests, along with as many photos as possible.

I also keep a little journal where I practice my drawing skills by documenting my allotment journey in ink and watercolours.

You can also follow me on Instagram and Twitter under the account @zoes_garden for more regular updates on my plot and prints.

A few photos from our walk this morning. Frost, mist, crunchy leaves, blue skies, cold noses, a very muddy but happy dog. I love a good winter walk. Definitely too cold for any gardening! #mistyriver #winterwalk #cold #dailydogwalk #ely
The dahlias have bowed out gracefully. I spent some time on the plot yesterday cutting them back, but I haven’t dug them up. Partly because I’m too lazy / time short, but also in previous years when I have dug up the tubers they’ve either rotted on me or dried out and died, I can never seem to get it right, I have more luck leaving them be. They’ve been mulched with cardboard around the stems, topped with manure and covered with fleece. Here’s hoping they survive ok and come back to see me in the spring. 🤞
Christmas shopping still to do? 🎁 Got a gardener friend/relative to buy for? 🌻 Want to just forget C and treat yourself instead? 🙋‍♀️😂 I have put together some set price gift packs of various items in my Etsy shop, to make life a little easier for you. There are packs available for £10, £15, £20, £25 or £30, with a couple of options on the 3 lower priced ones. Alternatively if you want to contact me with whatever budget you have, I’d be happy to be your personal shopper and give you a suggestion. All items in these packs work out cheaper than if purchased individually, but they’ll only be available until Christmas. 🎄
Apologies for the artificial light, but I made this today and it’s flippin’ delicious. If you can’t get quinces use pear or apple. And I didn’t have any rum so used a splash of ginger wine, but a splash of anything to loosen the mixture a bit will do. #quincecake #illustratedjournal #quinces #illustratedrecipe #theydrawandcook #gardenjournal #foodjournal
Journal update - all about chillies at the moment. We spent one evening last week slicing and pickling jalapeños, and I’m about to start making some chilli powder. I’ll try and keep you posted in my stories. #chillies #allotmentjournal #illustratedjournal #chillipowder #homemadechillipowder
We popped by the allotment on our way back from walking our dog, and I was amazed (considering the cold frosty weather) to find cosmos and cornflowers in the wildflower bed. Such a welcome sight at this time of year, I just hope they set and drop seed in time for next year. #novemberflowers #allotmentflowers #allotmentuk #cosmosinnovember #novembercolour
